Birmingham Newman University is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to take up the role of Head of Initial Teacher Education (ITE). The role presents an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, innovative and vibrant university that values its staff and puts students at the heart.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic direction, quality and long‑term sustainability of ITE across all routes.
• Provide strategic and academic leadership for all ITE provision, driving quality, growth and sustainability through strong partnerships, recruitment, regulatory compliance and an excellent trainee experience aligned to national policy.
• Develop ITE portfolio through effective planning, recruitment strategy and partnership working, strengthening the university’s position within the regional initial teacher education market.
• Build strong relationships with schools and multi‑academy trusts, driving innovation and ensuring an inclusive trainee experience.
• Shape future direction of ITE, enhance impact and ensure the university’s teacher education provision continues to contribute to the regional workforce and wider sector.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status.
• Substantial higher education experience.
• Strong commitment to inclusive, research‑informed teacher education.
