Applications are invited for a Band 7 Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS). Consideration would be given to a Band 6 in a CNS development post, requiring competency achievement before progressing to a band 7. This post is 19hrs and worked over 3 days in our busy lung cancer service at Whipps Cross Hospital. You will join 2 x established CNS colleagues, you will be predominantly based at Whipps Cross hospital but would be part of the wider lung cancer service across Barts Health, supporting the other hospital sites when required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the respiratory and oncology teams, across sites (occasional cross site cover may be required). This is an exciting role that supports patients undergoing referral and investigation for a potential new cancer diagnosis, focusing on diagnostic, treatment and supportive pathways. The post holder will help to improve information and support provided to patients and families, undertake holistic needs assessment, help navigate cancer pathways and referrals between different hospital sites and community services including GPs and community nursing teams. There will be an opportunity to work in a nurse led clinic and attend MDTs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- First-level degree in Nursing (e.g., BSc) or equivalent
- Relevant post-graduate course in oncology/respiratory or equivalent specialist training
- Teaching qualification i.e ENB 997/8, Teaching, Assessing and Mentoring in Practice
- Must hold current professional nursing registration with the NMC
Experience
- Evidence of practical experience performing duties and responsibilities comparable to those described in the job description
- Senior nursing experience in oncology, respiratory care, or equivalent specialist practice
- Experience assessing, planning, and evaluating complex care for lung cancer patients
- Experience providing education and support to patients, relatives, and staff
- In-depth knowledge of lung cancer disease processes, treatments, and care pathways
Multidisciplinary Working
- Evidence of working collaboratively with professionals from different disciplines to deliver services or patient care.
- Experience in interdisciplinary team working with MDT including palliative care and social work
Leadership or Supervision
- Evidence of supervising staff including taking responsibility for their work activities and performance, providing mentoring, training, or other support as required.
- Demonstrable leadership experience including setting and overseeing the execution of strategic goals, developing and influencing others to foster a positive and effective work environment, and finding solutions to problems in challenging situations.
- Upholds and demonstrates leadership qualities including accountability for own and other’s decisions and actions
Communication Skills
- Evidence of communicating complex clinical data clearly and appropriately with relevant nursing and medical teams and the wider MDT.

Salary
£55,524 to £62,652 a year per annum pro rata inc.
