Job overview

The purpose of the Accounts/Finance apprentice role is to provide a structured development opportunity for an individual to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a competent Accounts/Finance assistant, while contributing to the effective delivery of administrative services to the purchase ledger team. The role is designed to support learning through a combination of practical workplace experience and completion of a nationally recognised Level 2 Accounts/Finance assistant Apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the purchase ledger team. Register and input invoices into the purchase ledger system, match invoices to purchase orders/goods receipt notes and deal with supplier queries in liaison with hospital departments and suppliers. Operate within the Division’s/Team’s systems and act as part of a wider finance team.

The responsibilities involve supporting and engaging with different parts of the organisation and interacting with internal or external customers. With a focus on adding value, the role contributes to the efficiency of an organisation through support of functional areas, working across teams and resolving issues as requested. The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services.

The apprentice is expected to deliver responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive attitude. Demonstrate strong communication skills (written and verbal), adopt a proactive approach to developing skills, show initiative, manage priorities and own time, problem‑solving and decision‑making. The role requires initiative, planning, persistence and the ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain accuracy.

Training and Qualifications

  • Aged 16 to 18: Maths and English Level 2
  • Aged 19 and over: Maths and English GCSE grade C or above / 4-9

Skills and Knowledge

  • Awareness of Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
  • Ability to focus on a task in office spaces and when working agilely at home
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines

Experience

  • Experience of dealing with people over the telephone and assisting with enquiries

Benefits and Additional Information

The Trust offers a comprehensive induction programme, statutory and mandatory e‑learning training modules, and support for DBS checks. DBS certificate costs will be covered by the Trust up to the standard duration, with any applicable fees deducted from salary over three months. The Trust may reimburse relocation expenses subject to eligibility. Salary is set at £15,600 per annum; sponsorship is not available if salary is below the required threshold.
