Overview
EQUANS are looking for a Mobile Technical Operative (Mechanical) working at Manchester Civil Justice Centre for our HMCTS contract. This role is permanent, full-time (40 hours per week). On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
Equans provide technical and soft services to our client HMCTS across a large portfolio of buildings in the UK. We provide mechanical maintenance and installation services, and due to business growth we are recruiting for additional roles to provide these services for our customer. The primary purpose of the role is to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering plant, ensuring all activities are completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with contracted output specifications and Equans processes and procedures. This includes Legionella control and monitoring activities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that routine PPM is carried out to all mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with Site task schedules and CAFM.
- Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made.
- Ensure that plant faults and defects are always swiftly remedied to maintain plant in serviceable order.
- Ensure that suitable spares are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. To provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works.
- Ensure that all relevant paperwork/CAFM is completed regarding PPM, reactive and breakdown works and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator.
- Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are always prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices.
- Develop a good working relationship with all members of Equans staff, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Provide a Safe and Healthy working environment, including wearing uniform and PPE at all times.
- Maintain a professional image of Equans when interfacing with clients.
- Keep up-to-date plant logs and ensure plant rooms under Equans responsibility are kept clean and tidy.
- Supervise and monitor sub-contractors’ works on site during maintenance.
- Arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in working patterns.
- Undertake lone working when required, subject to satisfactory training.
- Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate.
- Be aware of and comply with contractual KPI’s/SLA’s.
- Keep CAFM system (e.g., Maximo) up to date and ensure PPM and reactive tickets are closed with accurate data.
- Operate a Permit to Work System in line with Equans’ Technical and SHEQ processes and client requirements (or approved client system).
- Carry out any other task as directed by the account management team.
The position will require you to provide engineering support in emergency situations to ensure business and operational continuity.
Client / Customer
- Respond in a timely manner to verbal and written requests.
- Coordinate quotations with the Area Facilities Manager.
- Production of information for quotations.
Helpdesk – PPM
- Support the Helpdesk as required when reporting or updating planned and reactive maintenance.
- Be available for out of hours call-out support for the contract.
Compliance
- To gain Technical Appointments as required (e.g., LVCP/LVAP/Mechanical/Pressure CP).
- Produce Condition / Dilapidation Reports as required.
- Inform supervisor immediately if dangerous circumstances occur.
SHEQ
- Comply with requests for information from the SHEQ manager.
- Work to the company health and safety policy.
- Ensure PPE is safe to use.
- Report accidents and near misses in a timely manner.
- Ensure test equipment is within calibration.
- Follow Method Statements & Risk Assessments for all works.
Impact
- Carry out Mechanical Engineering tasks.
- Assist with adherence to Company quality standards including compliance with specifications to current standards and materials/workmanship schedules.
- Maintain and care for all company tools.
- Wear appropriate clothing/uniform and keep work areas clean and tidy.
- Be responsible for and take due care of the company van in accordance with the vehicle policy.
- Coordinate materials and ensure accurate and timely completion of site-based documentation.
- Carry out works as directed by the Account team to agreed quality standards and keep the site clean and tidy at all times.
- Work with others to provide courteous service to the public and accept reasonable management requests.
- Manage adherence to Planned and Reactive tasks and manage subcontractors in line with H&S legislation.
The role is Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week, with participation in the callout rota.
Complexity
- Typical duties include fault finding, minor repairs and installation alongside general maintenance services.
Qualifications or Required Experience
- Approximately 5 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer within a facilities management environment.
- City and Guilds – Mechanical Engineering Services NVQ Level 2 or higher.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
- Proactive in achieving the highest standard of operation.
- Good IT and report writing skills.
