Sony UK Technology Centre is a division of Sony Europe Limited. It is the only manufacturing centre for Sony in Europe and employs over 500 highly skilled team players who help create some of the most advanced technology on the global market, focusing on high‑technology broadcast and professional cameras and systems, including the latest industry‑leading 4K technology. The centre also provides contract manufacturing solutions for multiple non‑Sony branded businesses.

Role Overview

As a Production Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient daily running of the Sony UK Technology Centre’s test and assembly operations, including bath soldering. You will work on preventative maintenance (TPM), breakdowns, and efficiency improvements, all while ensuring a safe and controlled working environment. The role requires strong mechanical technical ability, the ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, use precision measuring and testing equipment, and apply fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills. You will also implement and control process changes to drive continuous improvement and provide technical leadership and support to Operations Managers, Supervisors, and the wider Production Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out total productive maintenance (TPM) activities
  • Confident fault finding and repair on a range of production / process equipment
  • Control and implementation of key process changes
  • Implementation of productive innovation ideas
  • Provide input during Design for Manufacture evaluations
  • Stock management for your department
  • Ensuring a safe, clean working environment and carrying out work in a safe manner, ensuring safety standards are met

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Level 3 diploma in electrical, mechanical or maintenance engineering or above
  • Ability to communicate at all levels throughout the business
  • Ability to make engineering and technical change decisions to improve quality, efficiency for the benefit of the business
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude towards achieving schedules
  • Self‑motivated and strong sense of responsibility
  • Hands‑on tools experience

Desirable:

  • Tool room experience – pillar drills, millers and lathes
  • Understanding of basic electrical engineering
  • Aptitude for complex and technical operations
