Overview
We are seeking a passionate and driven Sustainability Engineer to join our progressive team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in UK Engineering Design – MEP and your commitment to sustainability principles to deliver innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and champion sustainable development. You will play a critical role in shaping and implementing energy‑efficient, environmentally conscious designs for a diverse range of projects. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and project stakeholders, to design and deliver sustainable MEP systems for new and existing projects.
- Conduct sustainability assessments, including energy modelling, carbon reduction strategies, and whole‑building performance analysis.
- Evaluate and integrate renewable energy systems and energy‑efficient technologies into engineering designs.
- Develop and implement sustainable design strategies that comply with UK building regulations, BREEAM standards, LEED certifications, and other sustainability frameworks.
- Perform Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) to quantify carbon footprints across materials, processes, and constructions.
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in sustainability technologies and regulations, and provide thought leadership to internal teams and clients.
- Drive stakeholder engagement on sustainability initiatives and deliver technical expertise during project planning and implementation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to address challenges, ensure on‑time delivery, and optimize projects for environmental and economic performance.
- Advocate for best practices in environmental design and champion sustainability within the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Proven expertise in UK Engineering Design – MEP with a strong focus on sustainability principles.
- Experience with sustainability standards such as BREEAM, LEED, WELL, or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in energy modelling software and tools such as IES‑VE, DesignBuilder, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with UK building codes and regulations, including Part L, TM54, TM52, and other relevant guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to critically analyse problems and develop innovative, sustainable solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present technical concepts and ideas to varied audiences.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and the built environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership is highly desirable.
- Understanding of circular economy principles and application.
- Prior experience in working with residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Day‑to‑Day
- Collaborate with internal teams to translate project requirements into practical, sustainable designs.
- Conduct feasibility studies to identify energy‑saving opportunities and renewable energy potential in building systems.
- Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to validate performance standards and assess project impact.
- Review designs, provide technical approvals on MEP and sustainability‑specific components, and make data‑driven recommendations.
- Create and present detailed reports, sustainability assessments, and certification documentation to clients and project stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate ongoing project performance to ensure alignment with sustainability goals.
- Participate in design meetings, workshops, and peer reviews to continuously enhance designs and processes.
- Build industry partnerships and networks to share knowledge and stay current on best practices and drive innovation.
