Job Description:

Software Developer – London (Hybrid) £60,000 – £70,000 + benefits

We are supporting a leading professional services organisation in recruiting a Software Developer to join their growing Technology team. This is a hands‑on role focused on maintaining, supporting, and enhancing core business systems that play a critical role in daily operations.

You will be responsible for supporting key business applications, optimising SQL Server databases, and delivering practical solutions that improve how users interact with internal systems. Working closely with IT, senior stakeholders, and technical specialists, you will play an important part in ensuring applications remain reliable, secure, and effective.

This position includes a balance of application support, configuration, and development, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety across both technical and user‑focused work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide configuration, administration, and ongoing support for key business applications.
  • Maintain and optimise SQL Server databases, following guidance from senior technical leads.
  • Support and enhance internal systems including case management and document management platforms.
  • Develop and maintain MS Office-based tools, templates, and automation solutions.
  • Liaise with end users and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
  • Ensure application security, data integrity, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Technology function.

Skills & Experience

Must‑Have

  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience (querying, optimisation, T‑SQL).
  • Proven background in supporting and maintaining business applications (not purely development roles).
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, VBA, or VBScript.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft environments including Office 365, Windows Server, and Active Directory.
  • Strong communication skills with experience engaging end users and senior stakeholders.
  • Exposure to working in the legal or professional services sector.
  • Ability to work onsite in London at least three days per week.

Desirable

  • Experience with Inprotech or iManage.
  • Understanding of ISO27001, secure coding, and general data security principles.
  • SQL Server development (stored procedures, triggers, performance tuning).
  • Experience with SSRS reporting.
  • Exposure to IIS, HTML, CSS, or web‑based applications.

Profiles Not Considered

  • Developers with no application support background.
  • Helpdesk/IT Support profiles without strong SQL and scripting skills.
  • Candidates with minimal or academic-only SQL experience.
  • Overly senior candidates focused on architecture or management rather than hands‑on work.

Location / Working Pattern

  • London‑based, hybrid working (minimum three days per week onsite).
  • Full‑time, permanent role.
  • Occasional out‑of‑hours work may be required for system maintenance.

How to Apply

If you have the relevant experience and are looking for a hands‑on role within a collaborative Technology team, please send your CV or get in touch to discuss the opportunity further.
