The role is within the Vale of Glamorgan’s Specialist Provision, part of the Wellbeing and ALN Directorate. It is based at the new Dual Provision Specialist Resource Base in the Caretaker’s House at Holton Primary School.
We are seeking a committed and motivated LSA to join a small, energetic and enthusiastic team dedicated to providing high quality provision for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
About The Role
Pay details: Grade 5, salary range 8-12 + ALN allowance
Work pattern: 30 hours per week, 5 days a week
Main place of work: Old Caretaker’s House, Holton Primary School, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan
An exciting opportunity to support pupils with social communication, anxiety, interaction or regulation difficulties, enabling them to access the curriculum using specialist strategies. Daily duties include one‑to‑one and small group support within the Resource Base, supporting pupils across Progression Steps 1 to 3, and supporting the Specialist Teacher with outreach and transition work in other schools when required.
About You
You will need to have:
- Understanding of the educational and social needs of pupils with social communication, interaction and emotional regulation difficulties, and how these needs impact learning
- Previous and recent experience of working with children in a primary school setting
- Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs, particularly Autism Spectrum Condition
- Ability to support pupils across all areas of the curriculum using a range of specialist strategies
- Experience delivering one‑to‑one and small group interventions
- Understanding of Individual Development Plans and person‑centred approaches
- Ability to implement strategies to support communication, social interaction, sensory regulation and independence
- Good behaviour management skills and ability to support pupils with emotional regulation and transitions
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to provide clear feedback to colleagues and parents
- Experience in writing formal reports for pupils or willingness to learn
- Good organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently using initiative, and collaboratively as part of a team
- A calm, consistent and positive approach, acting as a strong role model for pupils and colleagues
- Good ICT skills to support learning and classroom practice
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and develop specialist skills
- Willingness to carry out outreach and transition work under the direction of the Specialist Teacher, as required
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ongoing professional development
- Driving licence with business insurance or desire to obtain it
