Job overview

To assist planning, procure, produce and serve high quality, freshly made, nutritious and well-presented food. To oversee the service of food and beverage to a range of patients and customers ensure the food safety standards are adhered to. To adhere to the NHS National standards for healthcare food and drink 2022

Main duties of the job

To prepare and ensure meals are delivered and served appropriately, including relevant portion size.

Assist in the service of food to customers and staff as and when required (catering retail outlets).

Observe safe working practices pertaining to Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and food safety regulation/Legislation.

Exercise rigid stock control/rotation within freezers, refrigerators and stores areas.

Exercise ‘due diligence’ at all times, by way of carrying out temperature checks of freezers, refrigerators, hot food trolleys (at kitchen and ward level) and cooked foods as and when applicable.

Work alongside other members of the catering team to establish and maintain high standard of catering and food safety.

Maintaining a clean, tidy and hygienic appearance at all times.

Work shift patterns to be flexible to meet the operational needs. Ensuring at all times that you are correctly dressed for the task to be undertaken i.e. work uniform, safety shoes and appropriate headgear.

Attend training courses and lectures as and when deemed necessary by the catering management team. Be open to a Culture of Learning and service improvement ideas.

Undertake other ad hoc duties as prescribed by manager and within scope of skill and capability.

Conduct oneself in a polite professional manner with staff, visitors and patients at all times.

Person specification

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

  • Educated to GCSE level NVQ business administration level 3 or have equivalent experience
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate Level 3 or above

EXPERIENCE

  • Good Experience of working in a professional kitchen environment Experience of completing food safety data information in line with legislation. Basic IT skills including use of Microsoft Office to produce Word and Excel documents
  • Experience of working in a healthcare or retail restaurant environment Can demonstrate experience of customer service Experience of cash handling and using a till.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Have knowledge & awareness of food safety and hygiene Ability to work with minimum supervision Knowledge of health and safety Infection control (cross contamination Awareness)
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people effectively at all levels within the Trust.
