We have an exciting opportunity for a teacher of the deaf to join our highly regarded, friendly and supportive team within our mainstream secondary school on a fixed term maternity contract.
The successful candidate will work with up to 27 deaf students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. We would like to recruit an enthusiastic, qualified teacher of the deaf who has a particular interest in the teaching of maths or language and literacy to deaf students.
Although this post is for a teacher who has the teacher of the deaf qualification, teachers without the qualification may be considered if they are able to demonstrate an active interest and commitment to the education of deaf students and have a history of sustained experience working in a variety of educational settings with deaf students. You would be expected to work towards gaining a teacher of the deaf qualification.
Responsibilities
- have a record of good/outstanding teaching
- be committed to inclusive practice
- demonstrate experience of working with deaf students
- show a thorough understanding of language development in deaf children
- have experience of effective assessment and monitoring procedures
- demonstrate a commitment to high standards of achievement by deaf children
- be able to work effectively with families and external agencies
- be well organised and able to work as part of a team and independently, both in the Resource Base and in the school as a whole
- have good ICT skills and an ability to maintain audiological equipment
Additional requirements
- BSL Level 1 is essential; BSL Level 2 and 3 are desirable and a commitment to achieve them is expected
- experience of teaching English, Mathematics or KS2 (preferred but not essential)
- All appointed staff will be DBS checked without exception
