An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Maxillofacial Prosthetist to join our exceptionally busy and dynamic unit on the South Coast. Our service delivers high-quality prosthetic rehabilitation across three sites: Chichester, Worthing, and Brighton.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for managing their own clinical workload, delivering a wide range of highly complex, custom‑made prostheses, including ocular, facial, and body prostheses, requiring a high level of technical expertise and patient‑centred care.
You’ll be joining a skilled and supportive team of eight technicians and prosthetists who are committed to excellence in patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Deliver an advanced clinical and technical service to patients undergoing reconstructive procedures or rehabilitation using implants, guides, splints, and prostheses.
- Provide face‑to‑face direct patient care, including facial prosthetic clinics, across three sites: St Richards Hospital, Worthing Hospital, and Royal Sussex County Hospital.
- Attend theatre commitments in accordance with service requirements.
- Communicate complex treatment and device information to patients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Assess patients with trauma or extensive cancer treatment, adjusting communication style to meet individual needs.
- Liaise with clinical teams regarding patient treatment and medical device provision.
- Provide clinical and technical expertise on medical device design, manufacture, material selection, and uses.
- Participate in service research and innovation to improve patient care.
- Make complex decisions on patient care and service delivery that may impact other disciplines.
- Conduct and support departmental audit, including clinical and technical service delivery.
- Manage rosters, support staff allocation, and contribute to workforce planning and budget reconciliation.
- Educate and train junior team members, including dental technicians and STP students.
- Consent patients for treatment and maintain appropriate records.
- Manufacture specialist custom devices: obturators, trauma devices, cleft lip and palate devices, surgical cover plates, splints, and guides.

Person Specification
- Qualifications: Statutory registration with General Dental Council (GDC); registration with Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists (IMPT).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years Post Qualification; broad experience across this clinical and technical specialty; 5 years Post Qualification preferred.
