About the role

The Edge Infrastructure Product & Engineering team designs, develops, and operates all infrastructure used by Tesco Technology across our offices, stores, and distribution centres. This includes connectivity, end‑user computing, CI/CD, and observability, as well as both third‑party and internally developed infrastructure applications that support the wider Tesco business.

This is a rare opportunity to lead our edge compute platform strategy. If you have experience with edge computing, distributed systems, or large‑scale compute environments we would love to hear from you!

This is a hybrid position with the flexibility to work from our Farringdon office in London.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve and drive the product vision, strategy, and long‑term roadmap.
  • Proactively partner with peers and senior stakeholders to set the future direction of the product as part of the wider business strategy.
  • Understand key user personas, customers, and stakeholders for the product and their pain points.
  • Accountable for the performance/adoption of the product and work towards achieving the Outcomes and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Prioritise work and decisively resolve trade‑offs with peers and senior leaders.
  • Effectively document and explain new requirements to the engineering team using user stories with acceptance criteria, and help the team break down complex work into smaller, deliverable chunks that can be delivered faster.
  • Steer sprint/release planning sessions by working with engineering counterparts to plan sprints/releases that deliver maximum business value with least effort.
  • Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product teams and engineering stakeholders.
  • Prioritise, coordinate, and communicate the resolution of live product issues independently.
  • Provide leadership and direction to cross‑functional teams on short‑term tasks and near‑term priorities.
  • Be the subject‑matter expert for the product, building on a history of delivering value to customers.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of distributed edge environments and the associated challenges.
  • Experience delivering virtualisation platforms that meet consumer and business needs, specifically VMware and Proxmox.
  • Skilled in building automation and orchestration capabilities to deploy software and hardware in distributed environments.
  • Actively engaged in market research, leveraging insights to shape product vision and strategic direction in line with business, technology goals, and customer expectations.
  • Skilled in applying various data types appropriately, knowing when to use quantitative and/or qualitative data.
  • Able to coach colleagues across disciplines to adopt a product mindset, enabling value‑centric decision making.
