The business: Well-known UK consumer brand, millions of users

This is a rare brief. A genuine mandate to go into a complex, legacy payments architecture and fix it properly, not optimise a checkout, not implement a PSP. Real infrastructure work with real scope and senior support to do it right.

You’ll own the end-to-end payments strategy for a business where payments are the backbone of everything. The goal is to simplify a tangled stack that’s grown layers of new technology over old foundations, and build something the engineering team can actually move fast with.

Why join?

⭐ A genuinely meaty problem. This is the kind of payments challenge that doesn’t come around often. Complex, high-stakes and high-impact.

⭐ Real commercial ownership. You’ll be negotiating with PSPs, driving transaction costs down and partnering with Finance on every significant decision.

⭐ Payments as an enabler. This business sees payments as a critical part of the customer proposition, not a cost centre, so your work will be visible and valued.

You’ll need…

⭐ In-house payments experience. You’ve owned a payments system from the inside, not sold one from the outside.

⭐ Legacy re-architecture experience. You’ve been in a complex, tangled payments environment and simplified it without breaking what’s running.

⭐ Subscription and recurring payments background. Direct debits, recurring billing and bank relationships need to feel familiar.

⭐ Commercial and vendor acumen. You can hold your own in a PSP negotiation and know how to drive costs down.

⭐ Useful: experience in a regulated environment or multi-service/bundled/subscription/ecommerce product business.
