Retail Core Banking Solution Architect
6 Month contract initially + Extensions. Based: Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite in Milton Keynes. Rate: £450 – £550 p/d (via Umbrella company).

Key Responsibilities
- Providing essential services to Core Banking, as well as products for the bank to manage customers, accounts, pricing, transactions, etc.
- Core banking systems are crucial for the day‑to‑day operations, enabling us to serve our customers effectively.
- Producing functional architecture for project(s).
- Reviewing the designs that have been produced by Engineering Teams using guidance and patterns that have been provided.
- Validating that solutions align to the strategies (e.g. Retail & Corporate Bank & Group).
- Working with the engineering community to deliver solutions primarily in an agile way.
Key Skills & Experience
- Solution Architecture and Design; significant experience as a Solution Architect, ideally within complex financial services environments.
- Domain knowledge in Retail Banking products e.g.: unsecured loans, personal accounts (banking & savings), bonds (fixed term deposits).
- Business segmentation – Retail, business banking, private.
- Onboarding processes for personal accounts.
- Core Banking products (customers, accounts, pricing, transactions, etc.) and related services essential to the operations of a bank.
- Domain‑driven design, with working knowledge of the BIAN framework, TOGAF, ArchiMate.
- Proven experience in defining & documenting As‑Is & Target Architecture, working with stakeholders to deliver strategic objectives & roadmaps; balancing business requirements with functional & technical aspects.
Strategy Experience
- Defining and evolving RESTful APIs following best practices for scalability, versioning and documentation.
- Experience with event‑driven architectures.
- Ability to produce clear functional architecture, design logical components and define interactions between systems, whilst delivering decommissioning and archival initiatives.
- Experience balancing business outcomes with long‑term architecture strategies.
- Experience working with engineering teams to align technical designs with the published architecture.
- Peer review designs to ensure architectural integrity and compliance with standards.
- Experience creating practical, workable architectures aligned to IT principles/standards, following the bank’s architecture governance processes.
Leadership & Ways of Working
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Practical and delivery focused mindset.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving environment.
- Evidence of thought leadership, ownership and initiative.
- Desirable (not mandatory): Knowledge of BIAN, TOGAF, ArchiMate or C4; experience with architecture tools such as Abacus; familiarity with microservices, API integration patterns and cloud concepts such as AWS; exposure to global banking environments or large‑scale transformations.
- Preferred: Knowledge of Santander Core Banking systems, COTS Core Banking Products.
