Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Data Protection will play a key role in shaping and advancing Willis Re’s data protection framework across the business. This position is responsible for a myriad of responsibilities associated with data protection and is integral to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of data protection policies, standards, and controls, ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory and business requirements. The role will partner closely with colleagues across Legal, Compliance, Technology, HR and business leadership to embed strong data protection practices into day-to-day operations, projects, and strategic initiatives. This includes advising on data handling, retention, sharing, transfers, and incident management, while assisting the business to manage privacy and data protection risk in a practical way. The successful candidate will help drive global regulatory compliance with data protection and privacy requirements, as well as protect Willis Re from internal and external data compromise. To accomplish this, the role will obtain hands‑on experience with implementing and improving the effectiveness of traditional and emerging data protection technologies.
About You
You are an experienced technologist with a strong understanding of U.K. data protection requirements. You can solve complex problems in a practical, business‑focused way, are highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. You combine sound judgement with strong communication skills and can challenge constructively while maintaining a collaborative approach. You are proactive, credible, and solutions‑oriented, with a genuine interest in helping the business use data responsibly, protect customer and employee information, and strengthen trust through effective data protection practices.
Experience & Qualifications
- Strong technical acumen to understand data flows, systems, applications, security controls, and technology change to assess data protection risk.
- Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
- Proven experience developing, implementing and maintaining policies, standards and procedures.
- Strong background in reviewing complex governance and technical requirements and implementing effective practical solutions.
- Ability to interpret legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into business controls.
- Strong understanding of risk management and control frameworks.
- Experience delivering training and guidance to business users and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Experience within insurance, reinsurance or another regulated industry is advantageous.
