Learning Support Assistant

About the Role

Harris Academy Riverside is a highly oversubscribed academy serving the local community of Purfleet on Thames and West Thurrock. We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support children with SEND.

Salary

£22,456.27 – £23,101.82 (35 hours per week, 38 weeks per year).

Responsibilities

• Attend to the child’s personal needs and implement personal programmes, including social, health, physical hygiene and welfare matters.
• Work with the class teacher and Inclusion Manager to support the implementation of person‑centred planning and targets for SEND children.
• Liaise with appropriate external SEND or health professionals to ensure advice on provision is effectively implemented.
• Supervise and support SEND children, ensuring their safety and access to learning.
• Establish good relationships with all children, act as a role model and respond appropriately to individual needs.
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children.
• Provide reasonable adjustments, including supporting children’s intimate care needs in line with the academy Intimate Care Policy.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualifications to GCSE Level standard or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of pupils with social and emotional difficulties that may impact behaviour.
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft software.
• Understanding of social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
