Burton Borough is a vibrant and inclusive mixed school of 1160 students, situated on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border within the pleasant market town of Newport.

We are looking for a science teacher who has a love of their subject and is committed to inspiring young people through quality first teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Has strong subject knowledge and curriculum understanding.
  • Shows a commitment to high quality lesson design.
  • Demonstrates awareness of evidence based strategies such as retrieval practice, modelling, checking for understanding and scaffolded practice.
  • Uses a range of formative assessment strategies, including cold calling, whole class response and structured questioning to identify misconceptions in science and adjust instruction in real time.
  • Plans proactively to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND, through reasonable adjustments and adaptive teaching strategies.
  • Establishes calm, purposeful classrooms through clear routines, front loading expectations and consistent application of behaviour strategies.
  • Builds strong, respectful relationships with pupils, creating an environment where students feel safe to contribute and learn from mistakes.
  • Works collaboratively within a team, sharing best practice and contributing to a strong departmental, school and Trust wide culture.
