An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the tissue viability service at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, part of the gesh group. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic nurse with a proven track record in tissue viability and pressure ulcer prevention. The successful candidate will have enhanced wound care and assessment skills, and evidence of leadership and improvement experience.
St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group (gesh) cares for a population of four million people in South‑west London and north‑east Surrey. The Trust is one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the main hospital is located in Tooting, which will be the base location for this role. The tissue viability team works closely with specialists in plastics, dermatology, lymphedema and vascular medicine.
The role will join an existing team of two nurses and lead on tissue viability and pressure ulcer prevention at the Trust, with support from the Group Associate Director, Fundamentals of Care. Main duties focus on expert clinical advice and patient care, pressure ulcer governance, education and line management.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an expert resource, responsible for providing specialist nursing assessments, evidence‑based interventions and support to staff caring for patients who are at risk of or have a pressure ulcer and/or complex wounds. The role will play an integral part in developing innovative practice for tissue viability, promoting seamless patient care pathways, and leading Trust‑wide improvement projects to enhance patient safety. Central to the role is a collaborative approach with the multidisciplinary team, providing a comprehensive patient‑focused service, line management and service development responsibilities.
Person Specification
- NMC registered
- Enhanced tissue viability related course completed
- Leadership course or relevant experience
- Improvement course or qualification
Knowledge and Experience
- Broad range of clinical experience, with significant focus on tissue viability and wound management
- Experience working in acute and primary care settings
- Knowledge of specialist pressure‑reducing equipment and care
- Self‑directed role model with autonomy and accountability
- Ability to influence outcomes and engage in service change and development
- Experience developing and implementing policies and protocols
- Capacity to deliver training and education to patients and staff
- Computer literacy with software, databases and spreadsheets
- Management and leadership experience
- Published work, presentations and conference participation
- Experience of report writing and data synthesis/thematic analysis
- Ability to work with and influence senior colleagues
- Demonstrated Trust‑wide change and/or improvement
