Prospero Teaching is currently recruiting for tutors in Barnsley! At Prospero, we work with local authorities to arrange 1:1 tuition for students accessing alternative provision.
Responsibilities
The vast majority of our tuition referrals are for English and Maths. A lot of our students are working below expected age range, and the delivery of learning will be at a KS1 to KS3 level.
Example role: English and Maths tuition for a Year 11 student working below expected attainment. Experience with SEN desired.
Role Details
- Location: S75, within the student’s home
- Start Date: ASAP
- End Date: Ongoing
- Hours: 6 hours per week
- Pay: £20 – £30 per hour
When and where will you be tutoring?
- Within schools
- Within public places
- Within students’ homes
- At all of the above locations, an appropriate adult will always be present (parent, carer or guardian)
- Tuitions take place within school hours, 9 am–4 pm; clients are flexible on timings
Qualifications
No teacher qualification required. We usually ask that you have some form of higher education and at least 4 months of prior experience within an educational setting (teacher, teaching assistant, pastoral or support role). Experience with SEN is desired.

- Complete the registration form
- Short interview with a team member
- Compliance checks to verify required documents and vetting
- Begin your first role
Required Documentation
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS registration (recommended but not required)
- References covering 24 months of employment and references for any work with children or vulnerable adults within the last two years
