The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dental Health Support Worker within the Childsmile programme, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support families and individuals in improving nutrition and oral health. The role focuses on delivering targeted interventions, supporting parenting skills, and promoting children’s oral health as part of overall health and wellbeing.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Full Time, Permanent

Locations: Barrhead Council Offices, Eastwood Health Centre (involves community-based work, including home visits, nursery/school settings, and community events)

Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday, 0830 am – 0430 pm

Key responsibilities:

  • Support families and individuals to improve nutrition and oral health, particularly those identified as at risk.
  • Deliver individual interventions based on structured care plans under the supervision of the team leader.
  • Provide practical support and advice to families in their homes and other community settings.
  • Work closely with families identified by Health Visitors as requiring additional support.
  • Deliver intensive home support during the first year of a child’s life in line with Childsmile protocols.
  • Promote oral health and infant nutrition through:
    • Home visits
    • Community initiatives (e.g. Starting Solids events)
    • Signposting to relevant services (e.g. breastfeeding groups)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and carers.
  • Collaborate with a multi‑agency team, including Public Health Nurses and other professionals.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • SVQ Level 3 in Health Care (or working towards it) or equivalent experience in a caring role/environment.
  • Completion of NHS Education for Scotland (NES) accredited Childsmile/Priority Group training programmes during induction.
  • Ongoing commitment to continuous professional development (CPD), including regular Childsmile training updates.
