Dispenser – Outpatient Pharmacy (Maternity Cover)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, patient‑focused pharmacist to join our Outpatient Pharmacy Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary as part of a maternity cover opportunity.

If you are currently working as a pharmacy dispenser in the community and are looking to gain hospital experience, we would love to hear from you.

This role offers experience in dispensing, stock control, customer service and working within a multidisciplinary team.

About us

The Outpatient Pharmacy Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary is part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing pharmaceutical services across several hospitals including Royal Preston, Chorley, Burnley, Burnley General Hospital, Royal Blackburn, Blackpool Victoria, Westmorland and Furness General Hospitals.

Job responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Dispensing medications
  • Stock control, stock rotation, expiry date checking and use of the Pharmacy IT System
  • Providing an effective reception service, receiving incoming work and dealing with customer enquiries.
  • Maintaining stock of dispensing sundries and carrying out housekeeping duties to maintain good environmental standards.
  • Supporting the training and development of pharmacy team members.

Core working hours: 7.5-hour shift, 9:00 – 17:30 Monday to Friday, with bank holiday work on a rota basis (10:00 – 15:00).

Person specification

Qualifications and Education

  • 2 GCSE passes, Grade C or above (or equivalent), including Maths and English.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Knowledge of stock control systems.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety.
  • Experience of working in pharmacy.
  • Experience of working in a customer‑facing role.
  • Experience of working in a busy environment.
