We are currently recruiting for an SEN Support Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to work across primary schools in Teesside, including Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar, Eston and surrounding areas, starting immediately on a term-time basis.

We work in partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive primary schools across Teesside that are committed to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These schools focus on creating safe, nurturing and structured environments where every child is supported to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

This role offers flexible opportunities across a variety of school settings, supporting pupils with SEND and making a genuine impact on their learning journey. It is ideal for individuals seeking SEN support work, classroom experience or long-term Teaching Assistant opportunities across multiple schools.

SEN Support Assistant Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEND on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Working alongside class teachers to adapt learning activities and resources
  • Supporting children with autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH and additional learning needs
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and positive behaviour
  • Supporting behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Delivering intervention support in literacy, numeracy and phonics
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
  • Monitoring and reporting on pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing
  • Following safeguarding procedures and Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines

SEN Support Assistant Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school, care or support settings)
  • Calm, patient, consistent and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexible, resilient and proactive attitude
  • Passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Understanding of safeguarding within education settings
