Systems Tester

At Pennon Water Services (PWS), we are committed to delivering high-quality, reliable water services to our customers. As we continue to enhance and modernise our systems, we are looking for a detail-driven Systems Tester to join our IT team and play a key role in ensuring system quality and performance.

The Role

As a Systems Tester, you will be responsible for ensuring that our new billing system and associated integrations are thoroughly tested before release. You will work closely with developers, third‑party vendors, and business stakeholders to help deliver stable and reliable systems. Reporting to the IT Systems Manager, you will take a structured, methodical approach to testing, maintaining high standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end testing across billing, CRM, and integrated systems
  • Analyze requirements, process flows, and user stories to identify test conditions and acceptance criteria
  • Design, create, and maintain test plans, test cases, and test sets using Jira/Xray
  • Execute test cases with clear and accurate documentation
  • Log, track, and manage defects through to resolution
  • Support test data preparation and test environment coordination
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

About You

  • Proven experience in a systems testing or QA role
  • Hands‑on experience with Jira, Xray, or similar test management tools
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles and defect lifecycle
  • Experience in writing test plans, scripts, and documentation
  • Ability to interpret user stories, business requirements, and acceptance criteria
  • Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities

Desirable

  • Knowledge of billing systems (configuration, design, or administration)
  • Experience within the water industry
  • Familiarity with test automation tools
  • Experience supporting UAT with business stakeholders
  • Detail‑oriented and structured in your approach
  • Proactive, inquisitive, and solutions‑focused
  • Highly organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Resilient, adaptable, and flexible
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and Science
  • Degree‑level education or equivalent experience
