Our client is an international, corporate organisation, actively involved in International Trade & Development, based in Central London.
The Accounting Manager will work as part of the Financial Management Department and will be responsible for managing the trade accounting function arising from the company’s trading activities, as well as the company’s expense’s function. The role ensures accurate financial accounting, compliance with internal control procedures, liaison with internal and external auditors, and the provision of ad hoc transactional accounting advice to the business, particularly in relation to the company’s European metals trading activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the daily trade accounting and operating expense functions; specifically, to ensure accurate accounting; the approval of, and efficient payment to all suppliers; the timely allocation of receipts; the effective maintenance of all accounting ledgers.
- Ensure that the monthly and quarterly closing and reporting procedures are carried out efficiently and effectively in accordance with agreed deadlines.
- Supervise one accounting staff member to ensure the smooth operation of daily accounting activities and monthly/quarterly closing processes.
- Provide information requested by internal and external auditors in a timely and effective manner, assisting auditors for completion of audit process.
- Provide accounting technical support and advice to the Metals Trading business regarding the correct accounting treatment for new and ongoing transactions.
- Deal with ad hoc issues and projects as they arise.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A professional accounting qualification with at least 4 years post-qualification experience or be qualified by experience.
- Good Excel and Word skills.
- Practical knowledge of IFRS, in particular IFRS 9 and IFRS 15.
- Ability to work under pressure and cope with tight deadlines.
- Adaptable and able to multitask, whilst being able to prioritize.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with people at all levels within the company.
- Knowledge or experience of S4/HANA (SAP), the Concur expense system and the DocuWare workflow system would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience working with a multi-currency accounting system desirable.
- Experience/understanding of forward exchange contracts, derivative futures contracts and similar hedging products desirable.
- Good understanding of general internal control.
- Experience working in a trading organisation or similar company would be an advantage.
