We are currently looking for a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join our Cranes & Lifting Department at our Llanwern site. This is a practical, hands‑on role where you’ll play a vital part in keeping our essential lifting equipment safe, reliable and fully operational. You’ll be part of a tight‑knit team working in a busy and safety‑focused environment that supports steel production across the UK.
What you will do
As a Mechanical Craft Team Member, you’ll take responsibility for carrying out maintenance and repairs across a range of lifting equipment. Your day‑to‑day work will support the safe and efficient running of the plant, and you’ll contribute your knowledge as a skilled craftsperson within a high‑performing team.
Your key responsibilities will include
- Completing maintenance, fault‑finding and repair tasks to a high standard
- Promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring all tasks comply with risk assessments and safety procedures
- Supporting the team leader in planning work, coordinating resources and maintaining accurate records in SAP
- Delivering on‑the‑job training and coaching to other team members
- Deputising for the Area Team Leader when required, strengthening leadership skills in a supportive setting
What you will need
- A time‑served Mechanical apprenticeship
- Experience working on lifting equipment and familiarity with PUWER/LOLER regulations
- The ability to work at height and in a safety‑critical environment
- Clear communication skills and a willingness to lead and support others
- Basic IT skills and experience managing maintenance activity
It would be great if you also have
- Familiarity with SAP or similar systems
- Experience with EOT crane maintenance
- A track record of continuous improvement
