About the Role
This is your opportunity to learn and develop the essential skills required to become a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. Through a combination of blended learning — distance learning, block release periods, and hands‑on practice — you’ll gain invaluable experience and qualifications under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.
What You’ll Do
- Analysing prescriptions and providing tailored advice on lens types and frame styling.
- Taking precise frame, facial, and lens measurements.
- Completing distance learning coursework and assignments.
- Attending block release periods for immersive study and practical training.
- Building a Pre‑Qualification Portfolio (PQP), showcasing your case records and clinical expertise.
What We’re Looking For
- GCSEs (Grade 4‑9 / A‑C) in English, Mathematics, and Science.
- A strong passion for ophthalmic dispensing and a desire to learn.
- Commitment to 10‑15 hours per week for distance learning coursework.
- Availability to attend two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent.
- A professional and motivated attitude, with excellent communication skills.
Location & Flexibility
- Years 1 & 2: Training at our Epsom branch.
- Year 3: Potential for placement at another branch, depending on availability and progression.
