Job Description
Mitie Care & Custody are responsible for delivering the end‑to‑end management of all residents’ needs until the outcome of their case is decided by the Home Office, balancing safety, security, welfare needs and regime. Our aim is to treat those in our care with dignity, decency and respect, delivering a safe and healthy establishment that stands up to public scrutiny.
We operate in a high‑risk, high‑profile, heavily regulated environment, engaging with numerous stakeholders, including the Home Office and medical service delivery partners. In delivering our services, we help residents understand what happens next, provide an environment for them to engage in relevant activities, and create an environment where they can seek support while building positive staff‑resident relationships. Positive behaviour is promoted to support the welfare of those in our care and staff.
Job responsibilities include: supervising and supporting residents, maintaining safety and security, providing welfare support, participating in regime activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
There is no specific role experience or qualifications required to be a DCO; full training and supported development are provided. Experience of dealing sensitively with vulnerable, anxious, confused or volatile individuals would be an advantage.
Initial 7‑week classroom‑based training (ITC) followed by 12 months on‑the‑job mentoring.
