About the Role

Salary: £8,655 – £8,792

5 mornings per week – 15 hours (08:45–11:45) Monday–Friday, term time only.

Temporary contract (1 year initially) starting September 2026.

The governors of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School are seeking to appoint two Level 2 Teaching Assistants to support the classroom teacher and contribute to a caring and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering high quality, play‑based learning experiences in line with the Curriculum for Wales.
  • Respond sensitively to individual care and developmental needs, ensuring children feel safe, valued and supported.
  • Assist with children’s personal care, including toileting, hygiene routines and developing independence skills.
  • Promote children’s social, emotional and behavioural development, modelling positive interactions and nurturing relationships.
  • Contribute to creating a warm, inclusive and stimulating learning environment, indoors and outdoors.
  • Supervise children during learning activities, continuous provision, outdoor play, snack time and transitions.
  • Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) under the direction of the class teacher or ALNCo.
  • Promote the use of the Welsh language throughout daily routines and interactions.
  • Prepare, organise and maintain learning resources, displays and classroom materials.
  • Follow school policies to ensure the health, safety, safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents and external professionals to support children’s progress.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a supportive Early Years team, contributing positively to the life of the classroom.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Level 2 qualification in Education or related field, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting young children in a school setting (preferably Level 2 Teaching Assistant role).
  • Knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales and play‑based learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh and English.
  • Education Workforce Council registration and DBS clearance (or the ability to obtain).
