Job Overview

The Senior Clinical Fellow will be a valued team member, participating in in‑patient and outpatient care of gastroenterology and general medical patients. The role involves covering wards, participating in ward‑rounds and multi‑disciplinary team meetings, and may include duties at the Chorley site when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in‑patient and outpatient care for gastroenterology and general medical patients.
  • Cover wards and actively participate in ward‑rounds and multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
  • Attend specialist out‑patient clinics, including Viral Hepatitis, Nutrition and Hepatology, and participate in endoscopy sessions.
  • Engage in training and development on a dedicated Gastroenterology ward, with opportunities for teaching and learning under Gastroenterology Consultants.
  • Develop specialist interests in line with the Directorate’s business plans and service development.
  • Contribute to teaching and training at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

Training and Development

The role is permanent and offers comprehensive training in Gastroenterology with exposure to tertiary specialist services. You will receive an educational supervisor and be encouraged to undertake assessments (SLEs, MSFs, etc.) in line with speciality trainee requirements.

Teaching and Academic Involvement

As a Teaching Hospital, staff are encouraged to participate in teaching and training at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, with support for developing academic activities and training needs for these roles.

Continuing Medical Education

The Trust supports Continuing Medical Education as set by the Royal Colleges, providing time and financial support. The annual subscription to the JRCPTB national e‑portfolio is paid by the Trust, enabling you to collect evidence of experience and attainment of specific competencies.

Support and Resources

Modern Education Centres are available at Royal Preston, Chorley, and South Ribble Hospital sites, offering excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
