Staff Nurse | East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

We are looking for a registered general nurse to join our Outpatients team at Sussex Premier Health as a Band 5 for a fixed‑term or secondment position, up to 12 months. The role offers flexible 8:00‑am to 8:00‑pm shifts Monday–Friday, with optional Saturday coverage. The post is suitable for both newly qualified and experienced nurses with a background in medical nursing.

Responsibilities

• Use a range of techniques to set, monitor and continually improve the standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching, enhancing patient care and experience.
• Ensure safe and effective clinical practice at all times.
• Promote patient experience and dignity, treating patients with respect and empathy.
• Lead, manage and develop team performance, promoting professionalism and trust.
• Deliver on divisional and organisational objectives efficiently.
• Manage the resource allocation and devolved budget for the department.
• Ensure all patients’ prescriptions and medications are available on the day of treatment.
• Obtain consent from patients for treatment procedures.
• Liaise with patients’ families, friends and relatives as required.
• Complete incident reporting using the Datix system for near‑misses, potential or actual incidents.
• Provide wound care, venepuncture, iron infusions, blood transfusions; administer medications, chaperone, prepare clinics, track notes and assist with minor operations and OPLAs.

Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse (state‑registered in the UK).
• Experience in medical nursing is an advantage.
• Ability to work in a busy environment and adapt to flexible shift patterns over 5‑day cycles.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong commitment to providing high standards of nursing care.
