Security Assistant (2 positions)
Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus, and other local sites as required.
Salary: £25,467 to £28,482 per annum (pro‑rated). The pro‑rated salary range is £20,556 to £22,989.
Hours: 40 hours per week, 36 weeks per year.
Contract: Permanent, Term Time.

About the role
We are seeking two Security Assistants for the Estates and Facilities department at The Bedford College Group.
Key responsibilities include:
- Campus safety and security through routine patrols, monitoring behaviour, preventing unauthorised access, responding to intruders, and protecting people and property.
- Emergency response and incident management – responding to first aid needs, fire alarms, lockdowns, floods or gas leaks according to college procedures.
- Professional conduct and customer service – maintaining a visible professional presence, supporting visitors, providing flexible support during staff shortages.
- Operational support – assisting the Estates team with tasks such as emergency cleaning, parcel delivery, litter picking, furniture moves, defect reporting, event support and covering other campuses.
- Compliance, safeguarding and training – upholding safeguarding, EDI and health & safety requirements, completing required training (including first aid) and following college policies.
About you
- Essential training and qualifications – SIA licence (or willingness to achieve), First Aid at Work (or willingness to undertake), strong verbal and written English, basic health & safety knowledge.
- Customer service and public facing experience – experience working with the public in customer‑focused environments and communicating professionally with students, visitors and senior staff.
- Calm, professional and solution‑focused – ability to defuse difficult situations, follow instructions efficiently, remain tactful and diplomatic, handle emergencies with composure.
- Teamwork, reliability and college values – ability to work independently while supporting the team, punctuality, reliability and alignment with college values (student focus, high performance, respect, openness, honesty).
- Safeguarding, flexibility and mobility – maintain appropriate boundaries with children and vulnerable adults, be contactable at short notice, travel across all college sites with a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
