Job Outline – P/T SUPPORT WORKER / DRIVER

Post Personal Assistant to a young man in his 20s.
Post: 12hrs week 1, 15hrs week 2, alternating.
Salary: Living wage rate – £13.45 per hour, wages paid 4 weekly in arrears.
Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks pro rata.
Days of work / times to be discussed at interview.
Job Purpose
To support a young man with social support, getting out and about within his community. Part of the role is using your own car to take him to activities (petrol reimbursed). Hobbies include gym, classes at Centerstage, community classes, walks, shopping, lunch, and other outings.
Probationary Period
- 6 month probationary period.
- Successful applicant must undergo a new or updated PVG disclosure scheme and provide two up‑to‑date reference contacts prior to appointment.
- PVG costs will be paid by you and reimbursed after your first pay.
Responsibilities
- Support the person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed, ensuring safety while in your care.
- Be flexible with schedule, following employer guidance on specific activities, times and days.
- May work evenings and weekends as discussed (usually planned in advance).
- Must drive your own vehicle, hold a clean drivers licence with business use, and provide proof of car insurance.
- May provide companionship in the young man’s home when required.
Person Specification
- Essential: Good interpersonal, communication and listening skills; strong organisational ability; knowledge of person‑centred practice; full clean UK driving licence.
- Desirable: Lived experience of supporting someone positively; ability to engage in partnership with others; experience in community activities and networking.
Experience & Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and lead active lives.
- Understanding of how to empower the person and facilitate participation.
- Excellent communication and listening skills with values reflecting social inclusion.
- Good organisational skills and working knowledge of person‑centred practice.
Other Requirements
- Physically fit, flexible, reliable, with a good sense of humour.
- May need to use two weeks of annual leave concurrently with employer.
- 6 month probation period includes 1 week notice within this time if the post does not work out.
