Job IntroductionWhat you’ll doAs a Sustainability Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving our sustainability and carbon reduction ambitions across our housing portfolio. Working within the Homes directorate, you’ll lead the development and delivery of strategies that support net zero, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the long-term performance of our homes.The Sustainability Lead role focuses on embedding sustainability into investment decisions, operational delivery, and resident engagement. You’ll shape programmes that support retrofit, carbon reduction, and improved environmental outcomes for residents. As a Sustainability Lead, you’ll work across teams and with external partners to ensure sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

How you’ll do it

  • Lead the development and delivery of sustainability and carbon strategies aligned with EPC C targets and net zero commitments
  • Analyse housing asset data to establish carbon baselines and inform investment planning and retrofit priorities
  • Oversee sustainability and ESG reporting, ensuring accurate data, compliance, and continuous improvement across the organisation
  • Support the delivery of low-carbon retrofit programmes, managing risks and ensuring effective, value-for-money outcomes
  • Develop specifications and support procurement for specialist contractors, ensuring technical standards are met
  • Build partnerships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and sector bodies to influence policy, secure funding, and deliver programme objectives

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in sustainability, energy, environmental science, construction or related field
  • Experience in sustainability, carbon reduction, asset management or construction, preferably within housing
  • Experience developing and delivering sustainability plans and carbon reduction programmes
  • Strong understanding of sustainability, low-carbon technologies, and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of funding mechanisms, investment decision-making and retrofit business models
  • Relevant professional qualification / membership or ability to demonstrate equivalent professional standard and commitment to continuing professional development
  • Excellent communication skills, including reporting and presentations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and build effective relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
