Director of Engineering – Portsmouth, UK

Reports to: Vice President, Global Engineering

Business Unit: Pall Aerospace

The Director of Engineering will provide strategic and operational leadership for the UK engineering organization across Portsmouth and Redruth sites. The role focuses on new product development, sustaining engineering, compliance, and innovation, translating business and technology strategies into actionable priorities and delivering on commitments.

In This Role

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for the Portsmouth and Redruth sites, aligning with global business objectives and technology roadmaps.
  • Lead resource planning, performance management, talent development, and succession planning to build a strong, engaged engineering organization.
  • Establish clear objectives, KPIs, and governance processes to ensure on‑time, on‑cost, and on‑quality delivery.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to drive seamless execution and resolve technical challenges.
  • Advance Pall Aerospace’s filtration and separation technologies through innovation, VAVE initiatives, and obsolescence management.
  • Provide technical oversight for all NPI/NPD and sustaining engineering projects from concept through production release and drive rapid resolution of technical issues impacting production, quality, and customer delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to aerospace standards (AS9100), gated development processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as Head of Design Organization (HDO) from a CAA perspective, providing leadership over design governance, regulatory engagement, and airworthiness compliance.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant engineering experience with emphasis on support and sustainment programs OR Master’s/Doctoral degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in aerospace or similarly regulated, high‑reliability industries.
  • Proven track record leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex product development programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of aerospace standards (AS9100), gated development processes, and regulated product environments.
  • Demonstrated success driving NPI/NPD execution, cost‑reduction programs, and sustaining engineering performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
