We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, inspiring individual to join our team on Elm Ward at Sherwood Oaks Hospital. Elm Ward is an 18-bedded Mental Health Acute Ward that provides assessment and treatment for males over 18 with varied mental health diagnoses.

Your role will be to plan daily activities on the ward with the nursing team, encourage patients to participate individually and in groups, and work alongside other AHPs. You will communicate patient participation feedback verbally to the MDT team and in writing in patients’ electronic notes. Training opportunities are available to increase knowledge and skills for high‑quality service delivery. Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; the cost (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first two months. You are encouraged to enrol in the DBS Update Service with an annual fee of £16.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide social/therapeutic activities for individuals and groups
  • Identify patients’ current and past social interests in consultation with patients and carers
  • Develop individual programmes of care with nursing team and OT, ensuring needs are met
  • Organise and participate in patient outings and social events from the ward
  • Develop own group work skills to provide appropriate opportunities on and off the ward
  • Participate in alternative therapies (massage, multisensory work, aromatherapy) after training and in line with Trust policy
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and families to deliver activities and entertainment and build individualised care
  • Document and communicate activities and findings confidently

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ III in Health and Social Care, Care Certificate, or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare setting
  • Experience of facilitating groups/activities

Salary & Benefits

£25,760 to £27,476 per annum (pro rata for part time). Note: this salary is below the minimum required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa and does not appear on the shortage occupation list.
