CLINICAL SPECIALIST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST – EARLY INTERVENTION AND FRAILTY TEAMS

Permanent, Full Time. The Integrated Therapies Department at James Paget University Hospital is looking for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the Early Intervention Therapy Team with additional input into the Frailty Therapy Team.

Location: Accident & Emergency, Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care Unit, also supporting Frailty Assessment Unit and Older Persons Medicine. The position is based within the Early Intervention Therapy Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialist and complex caseload of patients with a wide range of conditions.
  • Deliver evidence‑based interventions and work closely with the Therapy Team Leader to provide leadership, direction and clinical expertise.
  • Support teaching, supervision and development of junior staff and students.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects and service development.
  • Lead and support advanced assessment and treatment of patients presenting with complex pathology, frailty and significant social issues.
  • Use expert analytical and clinical reasoning skills to formulate effective intervention plans.
  • Maintain strong communication skills to support a multidisciplinary approach, liaising with patients, carers, hospital colleagues and community partners.
  • Contribute to training and development of Occupational Therapy colleagues, Physiotherapy staff, Therapy Assistant Practitioners and other multidisciplinary team members.

Qualifications

  • Band 7 Occupational Therapist.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Experience in delivering occupational therapy services in urgent and emergency care pathways (preferred).

Working Hours

Core hours 08:00–16:00 with flexible working. The role will include participation in a seven‑day service and shift pattern.
