Neonatal Administrative Assistant

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to join our Neonatal Administration team to provide efficient and high‑quality administrative support to consultants and their teams. Working in close co‑operation with staff and other health professionals to ensure a first‑class service, the role requires an active and supportive member of the department’s administrative and clerical team.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational skills, a patient‑focused approach, be a good team player capable of working with different staff groups and be able to work on their own initiative. The person best suited to this position is someone with the ability to work in a team, excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, proactivity and enthusiasm for meeting challenges.

A good standard of verbal and written English, numeracy and attention to detail is also expected.

You will be working as part of a well‑established Neonatal team providing administrative support to the running of the service.

The Neonatal Unit provides specialist medical and surgical services to premature and sick newborn infants requiring intensive care, high‑dependency care, special care and community care.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE level education, evidence of good written English
  • Microsoft Word processing and basic Excel knowledge
  • Previous experience in administrative support roles
  • Customer care qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience

Experience

  • At least 1 year of clerical or secretarial experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience working in a hospital setting
  • Experience working with the public
  • Previous experience in a multicultural environment

  • Ability to communicate confidential information effectively and appropriately
  • Ability to work unsupervised

  • Comprehensive knowledge of a range of administration procedures and practices
  • Proficiency with software programmes including Microsoft Word, Excel and e‑mail
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities

  • Ability to show empathy to patients and colleagues
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities
