Job Description

About the Role

This is a Personal Assistant role supporting a disabled leader who lives and works at a high professional level. The employer is a foundation chief executive, government advisor, and public speaker with cerebral palsy and complex health conditions including ileostomy management and a history of sepsis.

This is not a traditional care position. You will work alongside someone who chairs meetings, advises government, leads a pan‑Wales organisation, travels across the UK, and speaks at national events. Your role is to remove barriers – so the employer can focus on what they do best.

The right candidate will be someone who understands that excellent personal assistance is a professional discipline. You will need to be equally comfortable providing personal care and sitting in a room with senior officials, maintaining discretion and composure throughout.

What You Will Do

  • Provide personal care and support with all aspects of daily living, delivered with dignity and professionalism
  • Support the employer in professional settings including government meetings, conferences, and public speaking engagements
  • Drive the employer’s adapted vehicle to appointments, work commitments, and social engagements
  • Accompany the employer on occasional overnight travel across the UK for work and leisure, with all expenses covered by the employer
  • Support day‑to‑day health management including ileostomy care and sepsis awareness – full training will be provided
  • Maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times, particularly when working in the home and in sensitive professional environments
  • Use initiative to anticipate needs and solve problems without being directed

Person Specification

Essential

  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to drive an adapted vehicle
  • Compassionate, reliable, and proactive with a genuine commitment to enabling independence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently, use initiative, and exercise sound judgement
  • Comfortable and confident in professional, high‑level, and public‑facing environments
  • Strong respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Comfortable working in a home where dogs are present
  • Willingness to undertake all relevant training including health‑related procedures

Desirable

  • Welsh language skills (spoken and/or written)
  • Previous experience supporting disabled people in a personal assistant or independent living capacity
  • Experience working in or around professional, political, or public‑facing environments

Terms and Conditions

This is a paid, contracted position requiring a National Insurance number. Pay is made four‑weekly with appropriate holiday entitlement. An initial trial period will apply. An enhanced DBS check is required before employment can commence – the cost is met by the Local Authority. Right to work checks will be carried out in line with UK employment law.

How to Apply

Please apply indicating the hours and shift patterns you are available to work. Applications should be submitted through Dewis Centre for Independent Living.
