Adamstan House is a small nursing home housing up to 34 residents. We require a day and night flexible nursing assistant. The Nursing Assistant provides high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care to residents in a long-term care setting. This role supports nursing staff by assisting residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensuring their comfort and safety, monitoring changes in condition, and maintaining a clean and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
  • Transfer and reposition residents safely using proper body mechanics and lifting equipment.
  • Take and record vital signs, weight, intake/output, and other observations as instructed.
  • Report any changes in residents’ condition or behaviour promptly to the supervising nurse.
  • Support residents with restorative and therapeutic activities as part of their care plans.
  • Ensure residents’ rooms and common areas remain clean, safe, and comfortable.
  • Follow infection control policies and universal precautions.
  • Maintain proper use of equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Assist in preventing falls by following safety protocols and monitoring resident needs.
  • Document care provided in accordance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, families, and staff.
  • Participate in handovers. training and team meetings.
  • Promote residents’ dignity, independence, and quality of life.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
  • Assist with recreational activities and social engagement when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Care certificate (not required but preferred)
  • Prior experience in long-term care, rehabilitation, or geriatric care is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, and resident-centered approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Physical ability to complete manual handling training to move and reposition residents safely.
  • Attention to detail and strong observation skills.
  • May require rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and assisting with mobility.
