Role Overview
The Trainee Team Leader will supervise and coordinate daily primary processing operations, ensuring:
- Production targets are met
- High food safety and hygiene standards
- Compliance with animal welfare regulations
- A strong health & safety culture
You will lead a team of operatives while working closely with technical, planning, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support primary processing operatives
- Allocate tasks and ensure team members understand responsibilities
- Monitor performance and provide coaching or guidance
- Maintain discipline and ensure company policies are followed
- Production Management – Ensure daily production targets are achieved safely and efficiently
- Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or processes to improve productivity
- Coordinate with other departments such as lairage, packing, and quality control
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
- Conduct safety checks and report hazards or incidents
- Ensure correct use of PPE
- Promote a safe working environment
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Monitor sanitation of equipment and work areas
- Follow HACCP and company food safety procedures
Training & Development
- Train new employees in operational procedures, safety, and hygiene
- Mentor team members to improve skills and performance
- Support management in staff development and evaluations
Reporting
- Maintain accurate production records and reports
- Report operational issues, equipment problems, or staffing concerns
- Ensure compliance documentation is completed correctly

- Has team leadership or supervisory experience in production/manufacturing
- Understands food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
- Is organised, proactive, and a strong communicator
- Can manage people effectively in a fast-paced environment
