Technical Knowledge & Skills

As an experienced Web Application Developer you will be expected to write high quality PHP code, demonstrate modern development techniques, and maintain our large but evolving codebase. Important aspects include:

  • Strong PHP programming skills; frameworks and libraries are less important than solid software engineering and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience with continuous integration using Jenkins, and using Docker for development and deployment.
  • Knowledge of unit, functional, and integration testing; tests must integrate into the continuous deployment pipeline.
  • Comfort with CI/CD and automated testing, as well as using Slack bots to push changes to live environments.
  • Experience with code review, including AI‑assisted code review, but a clear ownership of the code must be expressed.
  • Open to learning and building new technology additions under a 90/10 policy.

We provide MacBook Pros or high‑end Linux laptops and any necessary equipment, whether you work remotely or in the office. We host meetups and encourage contributions to open source projects.

What It’s Like to Work for BaseKit

Flexible hours, a supportive and inclusive culture, and a focus on career development make BaseKit an enjoyable place to work. Benefits include:

  • 25 days of holiday, increasing with service length.
  • Time off between Christmas and New Year on us.
  • Pension scheme with Aviva.
  • Vitality healthcare plan with an option to add family.
  • Excellent family‑friendly leave benefits.

The team works remotely with a hybrid policy requiring a minimum of one day in the Bristol office per month. Must be UK based and able to work legally in the UK.

Diversity & Inclusion at BaseKit

BaseKit believes that diversity drives innovation. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or background.

Hiring Process

The process is simple and respectful: an initial call followed by a full interview that includes an interactive coding exercise. We are committed to inclusive hiring and welcome accommodations or support if needed.

Do not use AI to answer questions during the interview; doing so will result in disqualification or termination.
