The Role: Lead Petroleum Economist / Fiscal Modeler
The Location: London, Tetbury
The Team: Upstream Solutions from S&P Global Commodity Insights comprise some of the most extensive and complete information, analytics, insight, and advisory services in the world. We deliver oil and gas databases and software, energy transition, energy supply and demand forecasts, and comprehensive data on transactions at the global and regional market levels.
The Impact: The Lead Petroleum Economist / Fiscal Modeler functions as a member of the Vantage Asset Valuation team, providing expert fiscal, economic and financial analysis of upstream assets for a wide-ranging customer base.
What’s in it for you: You will be a subject matter expert on oil and gas fiscal modelling, leading a team of economists and working alongside a global team of experienced researchers and engineers. You will build your knowledge around the wider upstream industry as it, and S&P Global, adapts and evolves with the energy transition. You’ll be a key contact for fiscal research and economics for both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
- Be the go-to individual for fiscal research and economic analysis with thought-provoking, qualitative and quantitative deliverables in the form of excel based models, written reports and presentations. Ensure that the breadth of coverage of Vantage fiscal models covers all types of locations and properties.
- Develop stand-alone project level as well as portfolio and company level consolidated models.
- Respond to customer questions of various complexity in assigned geographical regions by providing deep subject matter expertise, timely insight, and good judgement.
- Lead and manage a team of existing economists, driving growth, expanding capabilities, and managing priorities.
- Work in close cooperation with colleagues in publishing exciting content and product management teams to help define what type of results and analysis customers want to see. Contribute to the continual development of the Vantage product and its relevant functionality.
- Provide expert support to commercial teams, management, and colleagues for the marketing of the Vantage product to contribute to securing and retaining customers.
- Continuously develop expertise in a particular/designated practice or focus area and expand knowledge into related fields. Stay abreast of current/hot topics and contribute to written/published products to broaden and build upon subject matter knowledge.
What We’re Looking For:
- At least a bachelor’s degree or studies towards a chartered qualification in economics, finance, tax, accountancy or law is a must;
- Extensive hands-on experience of constructing, modifying, and reviewing Excel based DCF models (including its key financial metrics) economic models, ideally of the oil and gas upstream and midstream assets.
- Extensive experience with / ability to extract fiscal, financial and economic / commercial information from contracts, legislation, etc. and quantify it in the economic models; knowledge of oil and gas upstream fiscal terms / contracts and broader petroleum economics.
- Substantial experience in a similar role and with an oil and gas operator, consulting, advisory or financial institution.
- Highly numerical and analytical with expert level proficiency in Excel and VBA coding. Data analytics tools such as SQL, python, R, or other programming languages knowledge is a plus.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
