Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer – £45 per hour

I’m looking for a Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer to join a medium‑size, multi‑disciplinary engineering consultancy based near Farringdon.
They have a strong pipeline of hotel and high‑rise residential projects and need an experienced Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer to lead these projects.
Reporting directly to the M&E Director, you’ll take full ownership of your projects, from concept through delivery, whilst liaising directly with clients, contractors, and developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design of mechanical building services, including HVAC and hot/cold‑water systems.
- Coordinate MEP services across design teams and disciplines.
- Integrate renewable and low‑carbon energy systems into building designs.
- Prepare specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules for HVAC systems.
- Review RFIs, technical submittals, and contractor design information.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate mechanical engineers.
- Manage project profitability, ensuring designs meet programme and budget targets.
- Ensure designs comply with CIBSE guidelines, British Standards, and client‑specific requirements such as CP1.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in building services design.
- Currently working for a consultancy or design & build contractor.
- Proven experience in residential, hotel, or mixed‑use projects.
- Confident in leading projects and managing small design teams.
- Takes full ownership and accountability for technical delivery and client satisfaction.
They are also willing to employ you on a permanent basis; and their budget is £65K – £75K for a solid Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer.
