Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Employment Type: Full-time

We’re working with a well‑established off‑site MEP specialist delivering innovative, prefabricated energy systems to clients across the UK and Europe. Their projects span commercial buildings, healthcare, education, and high‑rise residential – all designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll help bring these projects to life by producing detailed, build‑ready designs that support low‑carbon infrastructure across a range of sectors.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing electrical layouts including general power, lighting, BMS, CHP, and control systems
  • Developing control panel schematics and operation descriptions
  • Supporting commissioning teams during site integration and testing
  • Producing documentation across all design phases – from concept to construction
  • Conducting site surveys and integrating new systems with existing infrastructure
  • Attending client and internal design meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and quality standards
  • Collaborating with the in‑house BIM and contracts teams to streamline delivery

What we’re looking for:

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical or Control Engineering
  • At least 3 years’ experience in electrical building services design
  • Proficiency in software such as Amtech, ElectricalOM, AutoCAD, or Revit
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills
  • Knowledge of BMS, power systems, and commercial M&E standards
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks

Bonus experience (not essential):

  • Previous work on prefabricated or modular energy systems
  • Familiarity with sustainability standards or decarbonisation goals
  • Prior exposure to commercial district heating or large‑scale energy centres
