We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver high-quality mechanical engineering design for water-sector projects across the UK. The role covers a range of technically challenging schemes including sewage treatment works upgrades, pumped storm storage, new-build pumping stations, and wastewater treatment assets. You will support the team across outline, detailed, and construction phases, ensuring deliverables meet safety, quality, integration, and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical design calculations, drawings, and associated deliverables
- Ensure outputs satisfy safety, quality, and integration requirements
- Direct, support, and develop CAD technicians
- Prepare scopes for and review deliverables from subcontract M&E design teams
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers; prepare specifications and review tenders
- Prepare design investigations, reports, and technical documentation
- Ensure compliance with technical, professional, and organisational standards
- Implement and record design changes in line with project requirements
- Estimate hours required for design packages and support programme planning
- Attend meetings, design reviews, and presentations, representing the mechanical discipline professionally
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ mechanical design experience in the UK water industry
- Graduate, HND, or significant experience from technician level
- Good IT proficiency and familiarity with design tools
- Registered with a professional body and working toward chartership
- Strong communication, organisation, and planning skills
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Engineer
- Experience in hydraulic design and UMON schemes
- Experience with clean and wastewater, infrastructure, and non-infra designs
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and engineering drawing practices
