Apprentice Project Engineer – Fire Suppression

Manchester. You will be based from our Manchester office with regular customer site visits all over the UK. You need to be willing to travel and stay over in hotels when needed. Johnson Controls, Grimshaw Lane, Manchester, M40 2WL.

To get on this prestigious apprenticeship programme we require 5’s or C’s in your GCSE English and Maths. Please include your certificates in your application alongside your UK Driving licence.

Join Johnson Controls and dive into the world of fire suppression engineering! We’re talking sprinklers, pipework, valve sets, pump houses, gas suppression and fire alarms. All the cool stuff that keeps people safe when a fire starts.

What You’ll Be Up To:

  • Learn all about how to project manage and commission complex Fire Suppression projects.
  • Engage with detailed project specifications and design data, collaborating with clients, end-users, sub-contractors on technical matters.
  • Learn all about fire suppression codes and standards, such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and British Standards (BS).
  • Get involved with Engineering Design studies and conduct onsite surveys to determine work scopes.
  • Ensure design work aligns with project milestones and learn about the commercial aspects of projects, protecting margins and minimizing costs.
  • Learn from pros and become a qualified project engineer.
  • Visit a wide variety of customer’s sites and businesses — no two days are the same! You must be a confident driver.

Where You’ll Train:

Train’d Up: Project Controls Technician level 3. Mix of college learning and hands‑on mentoring. College will be day release remote.

What You’ll Need:

  • ✅ GCSEs in English & Maths – Grade 5 (C) or above
  • ✅ Full UK driving licence.
  • ✅ Happy to travel, work away and stay over in hotels when needed
  • ✅ Good vibes: team spirit, hardworking, communication skills, and a love for technology and Engineering

Perks & Pay:

  • £15,600 starting salary
