RCP invests alongside founders and entrepreneurs who have built exceptional consumer brands or the technology on which they depend. Our team of entrepreneurs provides hands‑on support, accelerating growth through the investment of our capital (£5 million–£25 million), development of management capability, implementation of operational best practice and digital transformation. We support collaboration between our portfolio brands and leverage our internal finance, legal, commercial, marketing, logistics, ESG and office resources to support each team in every leg of their growth journey. Our current portfolio comprises the following, whilst we are actively looking for further investments:

  • Disturbia, a high-growth (70% pa revenue growth over the last 4 years), digitally-native, global alternative lifestyle brand empowering those who dare to stand out from the crowd.
  • Refined Networks, the leading SaaS platform for global cross‑border e‑commerce, working with over 9100 international brands to drive their USA and European marketplace development and support their long‑term growth through third‑party online channels.
  • Refined Brands, a portfolio of pioneering, digitally native brands in the South West of England, currently comprising Celtic & Co, Frugi, Turtle Doves and Kettlewell Colours.

About the role

Our new Digital Marketing Director will be responsible for assessing the strategy, execution, and performance of digital marketing and broader CRM across our portfolio of brands, as well as evaluating and analysing the potential of prospective investee brands from the D2C scaling perspective. This role works with our in‑brand teams to drive customer acquisition, retention, and lifetime value through data‑driven marketing initiatives and strategic development, facilitates the sharing of best practices, and is responsible for working with our portfolio companies to ensure we have the strongest possible in‑house digital teams. The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of strategic vision and hands‑on execution and focus on detail and data, demonstrating thought leadership by continuously challenging the status quo and driving innovation in a competitive retail landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Support the RCP investment team in reviewing new DTC investment opportunities, assessing the digital marketing and e‑commerce data provided by prospective brands, both through desktop analysis and active engagement with the relevant team.
  • Identification of digital “white space” and opportunities in target team structure, strategy and application of digital marketing toolkit.
  • Assist the RCP investment team in building the investment case and business plan for these opportunities, engaging with the target brand and their advisors to build confidence.
  • Partner with our portfolio teams to assess strategy for all paid spend across search, social, affiliates and display to meet KPI’s across ROAS, CPA, CPC, CTR, retention, CLTV and profitability in line with each business’s objectives.
  • Review the planning, execution, and optimisation of integrated multi‑channel digital campaigns, ensuring they are optimised for each brand and region.
  • Balance paid spend against organic performance and ensure continuous SEO optimisation.
  • Ensure that idiosyncrasies of each partner brand are being safeguarded and best practices are shared across the portfolio.

Other marketing channels

  • Support each brand in developing and implementing their overall CRM strategy to enhance customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention. Please note that some brands use catalogue marketing, so experience in this area would be beneficial.
  • Work with brand teams to deliver an integrated and commercial marketing calendar and support them with managing and optimising budget across various marketing channels.

Analytics and KPIs

  • Assist the teams in the implementation of BI tools and developing standardised and optimised data and reports to share insight into customer acquisition and retention, ROAS for each marketing channel and other metrics and trends.
  • Implement a consistent set of KPIs across the portfolio.
  • Support teams in building and developing forecasts and budgets.

Tech

  • Stay updated on industry trends, customer behaviour, and competition to lead the strategy and execution of an innovation roadmap.
  • Manage and lead all current and potential new third‑party tech partnerships/software to ensure strong business resilience, performance and profitability in all e‑commerce and marketing channels.
  • Advise the brands on the development and optimisation of all on‑site functionality and UX to enhance conversion and experience.

Leadership

  • Mentor a team of e‑commerce professionals at brand level, fostering collaboration and creativity among the portfolio brands.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in digital marketing and CRM by challenging the status quo and driving innovation.
  • Ability to step directly into brand digital teams to support their development/bridge leadership vacancies.
  • As part of the RCP leadership team, collaborate and work alongside other Directors to drive high‑level business objectives.
  • Uphold RCP values and standards and ensure respectful and collaborative relationships are established across the portfolio and with prospective investee brands.

Skills and experience required

  • 10+ years’ experience within a fast‑paced commercial e‑commerce environment.
  • A broad and deep understanding of all e‑commerce and digital marketing disciplines, including front‑end development, tech stacks, SEO, PPC, paid social and other marketing strategies.
  • A critical thinker with an outstanding entrepreneurial analytical mindset, able to problem solve and triage workloads for maximum impact through key decision‑making.
  • Ability to translate data and trends and communicate through easy‑to‑digest information which drives insight, action and optimisation across all digital areas.
  • Experience in trading across multiple digital storefronts, regions and tech stacks.
  • Strong understanding and experience in managing multi‑million‑pound budgets and P&L management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to toggle between a high‑level strategic view and a hands‑on, detail‑oriented approach.
  • A visionary mindset, coupled with a commitment to driving positive change and delivering growth.
