Location: The Curve Reception, Bury New Road, Prestwich, M25 3BL (Manchester Region)

Contract: Permanent, Full time 37.5 hours per week (flexible working available)

Salary: £37,338 – £44,962 per annum (Yearly, Grade 6)

Job Overview

We are seeking two human rights officers to embed human rights into practice and policy in GMMH. The role requires a background in human‑rights law, experience in public or voluntary sector services, strong communication skills and the ability to promote professional curiosity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and embed human rights into policy, strategy and operational practice.
  • Provide line‑management oversight of the Human Rights team and advisory support to senior leadership.
  • Lead and deliver human rights training and programmes for staff and service users.
  • Advise on safeguarding, legislation and risk management in relation to human rights.
  • Represent GMMH at national and professional events on human rights.
  • Engage with protected communities and promote inclusive practice.

Person Specification

Education

  • Essential: Degree qualification or equivalent experience in human rights and related legislation.
  • Desirable: Academic study in safeguarding, mental health legislation, advocacy or related fields.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Essential: Experience working on human rights, advocacy and safeguarding, including the Human Rights Act; experience with mental health or mental capacity law; drafting policy submissions; supervision and mentorship.
  • Desirable: Experience in a public or charitable sector role with teaching/ information delivery; practical experience of human rights in other public services; experience of policy work; quality and equality impact assessment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Essential: Ability to develop and deliver programmes to staff, service users and carers; build capacity; develop practical resources.
  • Desirable: Ability to develop and implement systems for monitoring and evaluation.

Other Requirements

  • Courage to speak truthfully and challenge appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the Trust.
  • Ability to provide calm, robust and clear direction in ambiguous situations.
