The University of Oxford’s Department of Engineering Science invites applications for a Senior Research Associate in Cerebrovascular Imaging based at the Old Road Campus Research Building in Headington, Oxford. This full-time, fixed-term research post is funded by Podium Analytics and situated within the research group led by Professor Thomas Okell at the Podium Institute for Sports Medicine and Technology. The role centres on methodological innovation in cerebrovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), encompassing novel acquisition strategies, image reconstruction, advanced image analysis and physiological modelling. The successful candidate will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing the assessment of mental health, cognitive function and brain injury, including applications to sports-related injuries and broader clinical contexts. Projects may involve leveraging large-scale imaging datasets, integrating machine learning techniques to identify novel imaging markers, and exploring imaging markers of microvascular damage and blood-brain barrier disruption. The specific focus will be shaped by group priorities and the appointee’s expertise. The Department of Engineering Science holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, reflecting a commitment to equity and diversity.
Applicants should hold a PhD (or have submitted a thesis) in a relevant discipline such as engineering, physics, mathematics, biomedical engineering or related quantitative fields. Post-qualification research experience and a strong academic record are expected.
Salary for this appointment is typically aligned with University of Oxford Research Grade 8, commensurate with experience, reflecting competitive research staff remuneration.
