South Staffs Water is looking for a practical, people‑focused Health & Safety Business Partner to help shape how safety is delivered across our operational teams. You’ll turn standards into meaningful, usable guidance, strengthen risk assessment quality, and drive a culture of learning and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on role where your credibility, empathy and influence will make a real difference to colleagues working in critical water production and distribution environments. With a competitive salary, company car, hybrid working and strong professional development support, it’s an opportunity to grow your career while helping build a safer, more resilient organisation.

The Role

As a Health & Safety Business Partner with South Staffs Water, you will play a central role in strengthening safety culture across our operational sites. Based in Walsall or Cambridge, you will work closely with the Operational Delivery team to turn Group H&S Standards into practical, accessible procedures that protect our people and support safe, efficient operations. This is a hands‑on, relationship‑driven role that blends technical expertise with cultural influence.

You Will

  • Translate Group H&S Standards into clear, practical procedures, guidance and templates tailored for South Staffs Water operational environment.
  • Partner with middle managers and supervisors to embed Critical Risks into Risk Assessments and ensure assessments reflect real work-as-done.
  • Develop and support the use of high‑quality Risk Assessments that act as actionable blueprints for safe working.
  • Drive improvements in incident reporting, ensuring reports lead to meaningful learning and preventative action.
  • Identify health hazards and support the implementation of appropriate health surveillance programmes.
  • Contribute to internal audits and inspections, including those involving contractors and suppliers.
  • Champion near‑miss and hazard reporting and facilitate the EcoOnline accident‑incident reporting platform for data capture and trend analysis.
  • Deliver against KPIs relating to the development of H&S procedures and the support provided to managers on risk assessments.
  • Act as a trusted partner to the Operational Delivery team, covering Water Production and Distribution activities.

What You’ll Need

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
  • Membership of IOSH or similar professional body (desirable).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (desirable).
  • Experience in the water industry is beneficial, though cross‑sector experience that brings fresh thinking is equally valued.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk, safety systems and cultural change.
  • A collaborative, practical and empathetic approach, with the ability to influence behaviours and build credibility across operational teams.
  • A grounded, hands‑on mindset and a commitment to making health and safety meaningful and relevant.

What You’ll Get In Return

  • Salary of up to £50,000 per annum, plus additional benefits.
  • Hybrid working arrangements, with a base location in Walsall or Cambridge.
  • Direct reporting line to the H&S Manager and the opportunity to shape safety culture across critical operational functions.
  • A supportive team environment with strong leadership and access to ongoing professional development and CPD.
  • Modern digital tools and flexible working practices.
  • The chance to contribute to a company committed to sustainability and continuous improvement.
